It's wild. All ages are out having fun in the streets. No matter where you go in Thailand on the Songkran Holiday (starting April 13th), you are guaranteed to be wet all the time, like it or not. As a foreigner you stick out so I think you'll even be wetter.
Smiles and fun and don't get me wet after 7pm - please!!!
This is a religious holiday. Buddha images are bathed. Monks in temples and elders in home gatherings receive respect
by the pouring of water over their hands. Truly though no-one stays dry as everyone enjoys Thailand's biggest holiday!
Travel info:

If you go to Thailand on the Songkran Holiday plan to stay in one place for a while.

Find a room, stock up, and get out on your feet. Forget trying to travel around the country as transportation is mostly booked and hectic. Avoid driving if you can because during this time there are increased fatalities on the roads. Enjoy, and prepare for unique sights and fun!
