Sala Kaew Ku near Nong Khai has one sight that cannot be missed. This park of massive sculptures is the work of the mystic Luang Pa Bunleua Sulilat, a Brahmanic priest-shaman who lived in Loas before Nong Kai. The statues here represent Hindu, Buddhist, and Confucian deities, including many-armed goddesses, naga snakes and all sorts of human-animal figures.
Luang Pa's mummified remains are enshrined on the upper floor of the Sala Kaew Ku pavilion. A guide should be there to take you upstairs. Mine was kind and informative.
To get there: Sala Kaew Ku is Located 6 km east of Nong Khai on Highway 212. Best bet is to take a tuk-tuk and have the driver hold when you are there or you may not find an easy way back.
LEFT: One of the interesting things about foreign travel is simply using the rest rooms. At Sala Kaew Ku it was the honor system of 3 baht.
RIGHT: There are times that I did not know which restroom to use because I cannot read Thai. Thanks to someone for the International symbol! opps...wrong one.
