My first night at the Atlanta Hotel

You have just arrived in BKK.Your flight seemed to last 24 hours. I think the first night in Bangkok will leave a distinct impression in the future when you look back in time. Some folks will be happy to stay in a dungeon the first night as they are so tired from their flight when they arrive in Thailand. On the other side some will require the lap of luxury in a 'high end' hotel. I am the older backpacker type who will look for a bit of culture or nostalgia with an economical price. The Atlanta's basic but interesting accomodations were my choice for a place to stay my first night in Bangkok.

The staff seemed on the jaded side when I visited. This is a negative but all in all this place will make up for this in historic background, 50's architecture, and amenities including personal safes in all the rooms, a reading area in the lobby, a map area, letter writing desks, and a vintage pool (the first hotel pool in Thailand). It also has computer terminals, and a nice coffee shop with a wide variety of dishes. The Atlanta is located on 78 soi 2 Thannon Sukhumvit at the end of the soi on the right. 0-2252-1650 or 0-2252-6069. They do not take credit cards but will accept reservations.
